Worship and Music

Worship is central to the life of our congregation!
Please join us each Sunday morning for the
celebration
of Word and Sacrament.

Worship & Holy Communion at 9:30am

Worship at Advent is a traditional style of worship with the liturgy. Every 2nd Sunday of the month worship follows more of a contemporary style that is still within the realm of the liturgy. The shape of our worship to God flows from the Gathering(confession and forgiveness, greeting, prayer of the day) to the Word (readings, sermon, Creed, prayers) to the Meal (Peace, Great Thanksgiving, Lord's Prayer, Communion) and then to the Sending (Blessing and Dismissal). Hymns and special music and celebrations are also scattered throughout our time of worship. We invite all to come and worship our Lord together!

*Staffed nursery is available all mornings at Advent*
Come and meet our nursery attendant, Brandi Prescott!

Seasonal Wednesday Evening Worship

7:00 p.m.

An additional Wednesday evening worship service is offered during the Advent Season (three Wednesdays before Christmas) and Lenten Season (six Wednesdays before Easter). These worship services are informal and inspirational!

Our worship services are led by our Pastors and our gifted laity. Liturgy means the work of the people and so we invite all to actively participate in worship!

Acolytes & Crucifer
A very important ministry in worship is the position of Acolyte/Crucifer. These two positions bring in both the cross and the light of Jesus Christ into every worship hour! The crucifer is responsible for leading the procession with the cross. The acolyte is responsible for lighting, extinguishing candles, assisting with the offertory, and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. A training session is held when necessary.

Altar Guild
The members of the altar guild prepare the Lord’s Table for all worship services at Advent. The altar guild prepares the sanctuary and the chancel for worship each week. The altar guild participates on a rotational basis throughout the year. We are grateful for their dedication year round.

Handbell Choir
The Handbell Choir provides special music for our services.   This choir is made up of volunteer musicians and is open to all who are interested.  The adult choir rehearses on Monday evenings at 6:00 p.m. and performs as scheduled. All are welcome to be a part of our musical ministry!

Advent Choir
The choir, under the direction of the Director of Music, Ginny Sweeton, prepares and performs anthems for our weekly Sunday worship services. Our choir meets on Wednesday evenings, 6:30 p.m. The choir rehearses August through the month of May. There are opportunities for soloists, ensembles, and instrumentalists. The chancel choir welcomes vocalists and musicians of all levels and welcomes new members.

Communion Assistants
Communion assistants are volunteers who share in the distribution of the Lord’s Sacrament on Sunday mornings and at all worship services. Training is available for those who wish to particicpate.

Assisting Ministers
An assisting minister is a lay member who serves along with the pastors during the liturgy and communion.
Assisting Ministers lead prayer, participate in the distribution of the Lord’s Supper, and assist the pastor in any specific needs related to the worship service.

Ushers & Greeters
Our ushers and greeters provide a warm welcome to all who gather for worship. Our ushers assist with seating, provide bulletins, and offer assistance to all who worship. Our greeters provide a warm handshake and a smile to welcome members and friends to Advent on Sunday mornings. All members and friends of Advent, young and old, are welcome to become a ‘greeter’ or ‘usher’. Our lay ministry board provides guidelines and training.
